Beaulieu Grabs Lead Late, Wins At Beech Ridge
The third round of Thursday Thunder at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour did not disappoint, as usual. 21 Legends Cars took to the track and they had a tough act to follow up after a great race last week. With Kirk, Hutchens and Dore starting at the rear, it would be interesting to see who would pull off the victory tonight.
The 88 of Nelcar veteran Steve Fox started on the pole with the 399 of defending Thursday Thunder champion Bob Weymouth on the outside. At the start, Fox was able to get the lead, but Weymouth held close to his rear bumper with the 30 of Ed Field right behind in third. Evan Beaulieu worked his way from his eighth place starting spot to third place by halfway. The top four got a little distance while the 1 of Aaron Lewis drove in fifth place with a good gap back to the rest of the field. Fox was holding his lead while Weymouth kept trying to make a move for the win. With ten laps to go, Beaulieu was able to work his way around Weymouth and with just four laps to go in lapped traffic, Beaulieu snuck under Fox for the race lead. He didn’t look back as Beaulieu cruised to victory lane in the caution free feature race. Fox was able to hold off Weymouth for second, while Field finished fourth and Lewis rounded out the top five.
The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour has put on a great race in each of the three Thursday Thunder races so far this season at Beech Ridge, and more are expected as the season reaches it’s halfway point. With the win, Beaulieu moves to the top of the points standings, but there is plenty of racing left as the top drivers are close in the points and the competition is better than ever, with four different winners in the four Beech Ridge points races. The next Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour race is this Saturday, July 9th at the rough and tough Unity Raceway. Pit gates open at 2PM and the racing action begins at 6PM. Next week at Beech Ridge is autograph night, so get to the track to enjoy some great racing and get your favorite drivers autograph after the racing, the show starts at 7PM, tickets are just $4!
