Garbo Makes Trip Worth It, Wins At Beech Ridge
Round four of Thursday Thunder took place this past week with another thrilling event as always. In the hot summer sun, the action on the track was set to be more intense than it ever had been. There was quite the mix of drivers in the pit area as well, with many drivers coming up from Connecticut to run with the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour regulars. The drawing was over and the positions were set, the 21 Legends Cars took to the track under the setting sun for their feature event.
On the start, it was the 8 of Nelcar rookie Matt Chagnot on the pole with the 10 of Ed Getty on the outside, and he was able to take the race lead over Chagnot. There was very aggressive racing going on behind the leaders. On lap four, the 56 of Evan Beaulieu was making his way from the rear of the field to the front when contact behind the 38 of Matt Bourgoine and the 33 of Alan Smith resulted in Beaulieu being spun into the backstretch wall, putting a halt to his championship hopes and ending his night early.
For the next restart, Getty was able to once again pull away. Behind him however, the 399 of Bob Weymouth went for a spin along with the 70 of Tylar Braunschweig, bringing out the second caution of the evening. Getty pulled out to the lead once again on the next restart, while the action was still hot behind him. The 13 of Carl Blandina was racing three wide when he spun around and the 17 of Terry Kirk and the 81 of Dan Winter made heavy contact, but were able to continue and no yellow flag was flown. Meanwhile, on his way to the front was David Garbo in the 86. He was able to pass the 27 of Kevin Hutchens for second, then the 10 of Ed Getty for the race lead. He pulled away and took his first win at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Getty finished second, Hutchens third, the 05 of Jacob Dore was fourth with the 29 of Charlie Buxton rounding out the top five.
After post race tech, Dore was disqualified for not reporting straight to tech, moving everyone behind him up one spot in the final finish. After five Beech Ridge points races, Hutchens leads Beaulieu by just 11 points and just 24 ahead of Bob Weymouth. Next Thursday is round five of Thursday Thunder and with just a handful of races left and the points this tight, nobody can make a mistake in their run for the championship. Racing starts at 7PM and tickets are just $4. For more news, info and how you can get into a Legends Car, visit Nelcar.net.
