Matt kept his momentum going for the month of May, beginning the month with a 6th place finish at Beechridge Motor Speedway.  After taking his first US Legends career heat win at Speedway 95 on May 10, Matt took home 7th place in the feature.  We took advantage of a day off from the tour on May 17 and visited the New Hampshire Motor Speedway / Granite State Legends Oval, taking home 6th place.  The NELCAR tour rounded out May with 3 races in 7 days... the #8 took home 5th at Wiscasset, 10th at Oxford and 6th at our "home track," Star Speedway!

Star Speedway ~ 6/8/13

The NELCAR Legends tour hit Star Speeding in Epping, New Hampshire on Saturday, June 8 for a great night of racing action!  The #8 was racing in 4th spot when Matt spun and was forced to restart at the tail end of the field.  He fought his way back up to 13th, when the race was called for time and cut short by a few laps.  You can check out the full story over on Nelcar.net

Beaulieu and Buffington Take Wins at Star!

After three rainouts in a row, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned to Star Speedway for double features and this time the sun was shining bright on the tight quarter mile. The Legends Cars had only ran one other race earlier in the season and the drivers were anxious to finally get a race in on the track. The day would start with the make up feature race from two weeks ago, when the rain came after the conclusion of heat races.

On the pole would be the 2 of Ryan Hammar with Mike Alton in the 99 on the outside. On the start, Hammar got out to the early lead, but the 59 of Reid Lanpher was right behind after starting third. The 22 car field was racing very hard behind the leaders and the first yellow of the race came out on lap eight as the 81 of Dan Winter and the 33 of Alan Smith made contact in turn one, sending Winter for a spin off the track. After the yellow flag, Hammar was able to resume in the race lead with the 20 of Taylor Martin working her way into second spot. Four laps from the last yellow would be the next, as the 98 of Dean Dezak slowed through turns three and four. The race would resume after the yellow flag and once again Hammar jumped out to the lead over the 20 of Taylor Martin and Lanpher. Lanpher would move his way through however, and take the race lead with ten laps remaining, but he had company as the 23 of Shawn Buffington was right behind in second. The two drivers swapped the lead until the final yellow came out with just three laps to go for the 15 of TJ Bleau going for a spin down the backstretch. The race resumed, and Buffington didn’t look back as he drove from the rear of the field and claimed the first feature win! Lanpher was second with Hammar in third. Bob Weymouth and Matt Grant rounded out the top five.

The two heat races for the second feature were won by Reid Lanpher and Ryan Hammar, and the field was set for the main event. As both the drivers who won the heats had to go to the rear after finishing in the top three in the first feature event, it would be Taylor Martin on the pole with Evan Beaulieu on the outside. On the start, the two competitors drove side by side for the first two laps, with Beaulieu coming out with the race lead. After a hard wreck just two nights before, Beaulieu was back for redemption and had a sizeable lead until the first yellow came out on lap 19 for the 49 of Pete Cannel going for a spin in turn three. When the race resumed, Beaulieu was able to clear Martin once again and regain the lead, as Martin and Matt Bourgoine fought for second. As the checkered flag waved, Evan Beaulieu would cross the line first and take the win! Bourgoine was second with Martin getting her first podium with Nelcar. Lanpher was fourth with Buffington rounding out the top five after coming from the rear of the field.

After 25 races, Bourgoine has a 17 point advantage over Beaulieu in the overall Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour standings, and it is set to be an interesting battle between the two as the season reaches it’s final stretch. The Tour will take a week off this week, but will be back in action on Saturday, September 1st at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the quarter mile oval. We are pleased to announce Babs, the Friends of Retrievers foster pup that was crashing at the Hooligan household, has been adopted by The Cannell's and is now known as Belle!  We love fostering and love it even more when people we know adopt! We could not be happier than having Belle remain a part of our NELCAR family!

Congrats to Pete & Wanda on

Star Speedway ~ 5/26/12

Ladyga Dominates For Star Win

The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned to Star Speedway this past weekend. With the biggest field of the season, totaling 26 cars, and with the competition as tight as its been all season, there were several drivers looking for a big day in the series first run at Star. Last season when the Tour went to Star for the first time ever for an exhibition race, it was won in dominating fashion by Nick Ladyga in the 3 car. He was looking to make it two in a row at the tough quarter mile.

The first of two heat races had defending Nelcar champion Evan Beaulieu on the pole with young driver Joey Parker in the 60 on his outside. On the start, Beaulieu got out to the early lead while Matt Bourgoine and Ladyga worked into the top three. Just a few laps into the race, Parker went for a spin off turn two. He was able to continue on but the 20 of Taylor Martin and the 33 of Alan Smith were involved in the incident as well, which saw Smith head to the pit area early. On the restart, Beaulieu once again got out to the early lead, but with a few laps to go Ladyga ran him down and was able to put the pass and get the heat race win. Beaulieu finished second with Bourgoine in third.

The second heat race would have Kevin Hutchens on the pole with former series champion Bob Weymouth on his outside. On the start, Hutchens was able to get out to the early lead withWeymouthright behind in second. Coming from a ways back however was the 23 of Shawn Buffington trying to work his way to the front. The heat ran incident free, with Hutchens taking the win. Buffington worked his way to second with the 11 of recent standout Steve Miller in third.

The feature lineup was determined by the heat race finishes, giving Ladyga the pole with the 27 of Kevin Hutchens on the outside. On the start, Ladyga was able to take off with the race lead, while Beaulieu followed through to take second. After a few laps in, Buffington was able to work his way into the third spot. It didn’t take long for the leaders to find lapped traffic, and would fight it the rest of the way throughout the caution free event. Ladyga was able to stretch his lead over Beaulieu. At the checkered flag, it was Nick Ladyga picking up his first win of the 2012 season. Beaulieu finished second with Buffington rounding out the podium. Bourgoine finished fourth and Miller rounded out the top five.

The race had cars spread out all across the tight track, and it was amazing job by all the drivers to navigate through the traffic with one an another and showcase why they are some of the greatest Legends drivers in the country. With the second place, Beaulieu has moved his way into a tie with Bourgoine for the points lead going into next weekends big return to Speedway 95 in Hermon, Maine. The Dysart’s Northeast Legends Showdown is set to be a big one, with a major purse up for grabs. Who will be the inaugural winner of what is sure to be a great event? Be at the track next Saturday, June 2nd to find out, racing starts at 5PM! For more info, news and how you can get into the affordable and fun Legends Cars action, visit Nelcar.net!
